Hire and Experienced Appraiser: Look for a GPPA
Q: What is a GPPA?
A: GPPA stands for Graduate Personal Property Appraiser. It is a designation offered to Auctioneers, appraisers and sellers, and dealers of specialty items, that helps them enhance the services they offer to their customers.
Q: What is required to earn the GPPA designation?
A: To earn their GPPA, participants must complete two 14-credit hour courses (one in the specialty area of their choosing; antiques and estates, construction and farm equipment, or plant machinery and equipment). They also must pass written exams on appraisal writing and research, and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (UAPAP), a set of standards of practice for appraisers and users of appraisal services set forth by The Appraisal Foundation.
Q: Do a large number of Auctioneers hold the GPPA designation?
A: Less than one percent of auction professionals throughout North America hold the GPPA designation.
Due to new regulations even fewer auction professionals and appraisers are qualified to appraise for IRS. Jay and Kevin both hold the designations and qualifications necessary to perform these appraisals.
Q: Why should consumers hire an Auctioneer with GPPA designation?
A: The reason is simple. GPPA means professionalism and expertise. Auctioneers with a GPPA designation have the background and knowledge it takes to successfully meet the needs of consumers when it comes to appraising personal and specialty property. They know industry trends and how to identify and properly evaluate property.
